Pastor Roger Valci
An Interview with Pastor Roger
Q: Why did you enter into ministry?A: Graduating as an Electrical Engineer in 1989, I took my first job at Lockheed working on military satellites. I soon found myself at the center of a Tom Clancy world working daily besides high ranking military and political leaders and launching Titan rockets. Yet, in spite of all this intrigue and adventure, nothing in my life was more invigorating than watching Jesus transform young college students.
Q: What motivates you to work each day in God's house?
Q: What motivates you to work each day in God's house?
A: If Jesus really did rise from the dead, then there is sufficient grace for any difficulty, conflict or challenge that comes our way. The world is in desperate need of hope and grace and I get the opportunity to see these virtues heal families, cure addictions and transform settings each day. Who wouldn't want to get paid to see healing and wholeness come to people each day?
Q: What will we never see you do as a pastor?
A: Hand motions or human videos.
Q: Name some people (past or present) that have inspired or shaped your life?
A: Ken Rankin - helped me get through Fremont Christian
Paul Meekins - showed me what a real man looks like
Dr. Graff - prayed me through my engineering degree
Hudson Taylor - one man can change a nation for God
Dr. Peter Kuzmic - showed me how the Gospel can heal the brokenness of the Balkans
Terry Inman - for giving me an opportunity to discover myself
Q: What dream(s) do you have for the church?
A: Help every person in our church worship Jesus through their personality, talents and gifts. Following Jesus is not about obtaining season tickets to watch the pastoral superstars each week. It's about getting on the playing field and ushering in the kingdom.
Q: What do you do to relax?

A: Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey in a cup with a little milk and a crushed sugar cone.
Q: What web sites, magazines or blogs do you visit most often?
Q: What web sites, magazines or blogs do you visit most often?
A: I podcast several preachers and news agencies and run around Coyote Hills listening to them each week. Tony Campolo and Ravi Zacharias are two of my favorites. Bill Hybels has a tremendous anointing for church leadership. Haddon Robinson is a preacher par excellence. For my tech itch, I listen to T.W.I.T.
Q: What do you hate most about church life?
A: Living last years calendar. I want to seek hard those places God is blessing and pour my time and energies there. I can't stand mediocrity and events that seem to have no real purpose.
Q: What do your kids teach you about God?
A: Generosity. I love to give to my kids and "if I being evil know how to give good gifts to my children, how much more..."
